My name is Dennis van der Meulen, born in Harlingen, but currently living in Alkmaar, The Netherlands. I work as a electrical/mechanical engineer, so I have always loved costumazing and fixing anthing with a powersource. It has definately come in handy when I started drone racing. I think it was in 2014 that I bought my first toy drone. It wasn’t very long after that that I bought a Cherson CX20 to be able to fly outdoors and make videos. After that I discovered race drones. The first race drone I bought and build was a ZMR250 and I used a videoscreen to fly fpv. Since then I’ve crashed and build many different drones in all sizes and got real FPV goggles. When 3D printing started to become available for everybody I got one myself and used it to improve my drones. Mainly to protect and secure everyting since high speed crashes happened daily learning new tricks. But as time went by I got better and crashes occured less often.
In the summer I’m trying to fly at least a few lipo’s a day if the weather allows it. In winter I’ve organized several indoor training days at a local sport venue and an old post office. At first we build our own home made gates, very basic but now my entire hallway is full of professional and home made gates. Last year I worked together with a friend of mine to organize a drone race called Drone racing Middenwaard. It was in the parking garage of a mall and it turned out great.
